LORAIN WOMAN KILLED IN OHIO TURNPIKE CRASH; 3 CHILDREN INJURED

A 28-year-old Lorain woman died and three children were injured Friday morning in a rollover crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Najalee N. Rivera was driving east about 11:54 a.m. June 19 when her Toyota RAV4 went off the right side of the roadway near milepost 146.3 in Elyria Township, struck a guardrail and overturned. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three juvenile passengers — a 7-year-old boy, an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl, all from Lorain — suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, the patrol said. They were taken by LifeCare ambulance to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

Investigators said Rivera was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. All eastbound lanes were closed for about three hours while crews cleared the scene.

The Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from the Elyria Township Fire Department, the Lorain County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission and Rich’s Towing. The investigation continues.
