This is Carlin McGarvey, Who was Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash at Kinsman Road and Prairie Road in Grundy County
Carlin J. McGarvey, a 23-year-old man from Streator, Illinois, was killed Wednesday morning following a violent two-vehicle crash in Grundy County, according to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at approximately 7:09 a.m. on May 13, 2026, to the intersection of Kinsman Road and Prairie Road near Kinsman after receiving reports of a serious collision involving an ejected driver.
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that McGarvey was driving a red 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastbound on Prairie Road as he approached the intersection with Kinsman Road, where traffic is controlled by a stop sign.
Authorities said a brown 2013 Ford Escape, driven by a 22-year-old woman from Kinsman, was traveling northbound on Kinsman Road at the same time.
Investigators determined the Ford Ranger allegedly failed to stop at the intersection and entered the roadway, where it was struck on the passenger side by the Ford Escape.
The impact caused the pickup truck to overturn, ejecting McGarvey from the vehicle. Officials said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews transported McGarvey from the scene to Morris Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by John Callahan.
The driver of the Ford Escape suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.
Multiple emergency agencies responded to assist, including the Seneca Fire Department, Seneca EMS, Verona/Kinsman Fire Department, and the Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Ambulance.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.
